after school
In partnership with The Sherwood Foundation, Collective For Youth, Kids Can, Completely Kids and Girls, Inc, Omaha Girls Rock works within schools and facilities during after school time. We use the historical impact of musical artists throughout time to understand the social impact of music. In this program, we dig deep into the power of language and the use of voice to build leadership skills and increase self confidence!
OGR After school focuses on serving youth year-round through in-depth skill building on instruments, studying femme-identifying, trans, gender-expansive and non-binary artists’ impact on the world and identifying social justice issues that participants feel are important to them and their identities.
We are grateful to partner with The Sherwood Foundation, Collective for Youth, Omaha Public Schools, Kids Can, and Completely Kids to serve the youth of Omaha metro area.
During the 20-21 school year we sponsored 6 OPS Middle Schools in partnership with Collective for Youth: Morton, Lewis and Clark, Monroe, King Science Magnet, McMillan Magnet, and Marrs Magnet.
Omaha Girls Rock has the privilege of working with Omaha Public Library and Why Arts to teach students about the impact of women throughout history and the world. In our collaboration, students read from Brazen: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World by Penelope Bagieu and synthesize their learning with visual and musical creations. Students make personal connections to the individuals they read about and recognize how they can use their voice to make a difference in their world.
